Sony, once led by Jim Ryan who was regarded as the modern day William Wallace for his bravery in the face of death and for basically being Scottish, is now a company in turmoil. What was once a perfectly unified corporation is now emblematic of two feral cats in a taped up box. This may not be how the new CEOs Hermen Hulst and Hideaki Nishino may be perceived when the cameras are on them, however, once the glitter and magic of the spotlight fades the workers underneath them are left with what remains, constant bickering.
The pair have been at each other’s throats since they first strutted in to Sony HQ which has turned the peaceful work environment on its head. On the first day of the co-op leadership an argument broke out between the new CEOs in the lunch room over the last piece of week old going away cake for Jim Ryan. Hulst scoffed it down and walked out leaving Nishino weeping in a fetal position on the floor, between the cream cake and tears it was a very ugly scene. Later that day through the paper-thin walls guttural screams went back and forth between them as both of them wanted Jim’s old desk. Hulst ended up dramatically body slamming the desk to halve it between them settling the conflict. Jim’s throne (the nickname for Jim Ryan’s personal toilet) was another area of contention especially when neither could own up to leaving a skid mark on it. Nishino gave in and cleaned the turd off it so they could do pee pees without gagging. It’s not all doom and gloom though, one positive note that they agree on is that they both want all new games to be live service!
